The recruiter was great, answering my questions and giving feedback throughout. However, the live technical challenge was disappointing. It had four parts: technical questions, design systems, React debugging, and a TypeScript problem. I felt I did well on most parts, but struggled with the TypeScript task. I was rejected because they said I needed too much guidance on the React problem. This was confusing because it was a pair programming format, where collaboration is expected. I was enthusiastic because the interviewer said I did a great job, but got rejected two days later because they didn't actually want pair programming. I was really hoping to join Deel, so this feedback felt contradictory and unexpected.

Had an initial call with the recruiter and it felt pretty off. She came across as condescending and arrogant and honestly felt like I was just there to help her meet a quota. Moved on to the tech take home challenge next. They explicitly said not to spend more than 3 hours on it. I finished all the requirements in under half that time, but they rejected it, saying there were missing error handling etc...stuff they never mentioned in the brief and way out of scope for what they asked. If someone did include those extras, there's no way they stuck to the 3-hour limit. Feels like more evidence that I was just there to tick a box. The job has been re-listed now, so it might even be ghost hiring. Just a heads-up to anyone considering applying, might not be worth your time. Be aware.

The interview process is pretty clear and simple, no surprises. It's 4 rounds total, spread over 2 weeks. First, a 30-minute screener call where they'll talk about your background and give you info about Deel, plus answer your questions. Second, you get a take-home assignment due in 2 days, but you can ask for more time. It's a basic task, but you need to really showcase your skills. Treat it like real work to pass. No shortcuts or hacks unless you explain why. Third, a 60-minute technical interview with the hiring manager and an engineer from the team. It's more of a discussion about the role and your background, not a test. Fourth, a 30-minute culture fit interview with an Engineering Director. Just be yourself and show enthusiasm. You'll get feedback after each round in 1-2 days. Scheduling the next round can take up to two weeks depending on your availability.
