First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deel.
Backend Engineer
We had an initial chat for the first round, and they threw in some technical screening questions there too. Then came a Codility challenge for the second round. The third round was a collaborative technical interview. After that, I had a discussion with the Engineering Director for the fourth round, followed by a fifth culture-fit interview. Big thanks to Vika, Vitor M. & Vitor A. for making it a good experience. Keep up the great work!
- Questions touched on debugging, database design, and system design.
- Technical screening questions were asked.
Backend Engineer
The interview process was smooth and the recruiter was professional and nice. I had a good impression of the team and the role. However, after a good first round, I was rejected because the company "only hires Swiss citizens due to very strict legal laws." This is misleading because as an EU citizen (Italian) living in Switzerland, I have the legal right to work here. It seems the restriction was an internal policy, not a legal one. This was disappointing because the rejection wasn't based on skills or eligibility, but on an unnecessarily restrictive and inaccurately justified company rule. Future candidates should know that even if you're legally allowed to work in Switzerland, you might be excluded for reasons unrelated to your qualifications.

Backend Engineer
I applied online and got an interview scheduled. The HR person was late and seemed tired. They asked where I am from and if I can work as a contractor. I said no, and they said they could only offer a contractor position then. I felt it was a waste of time since that could have been a checkbox on the application. The interview finished in 5 minutes. Later, another recruiter reached out about an open role with an employment option. I said I was interested but didn't hear back. I don't trust this interview process.
