Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deel.
Senior Accountant
The interview process was pretty good and professional. It started with a quick chat to go over the role and what they expected. Then, I had an online interview with the panel, where we talked about my background, skills, and how they fit the job. They kept me in the loop and responded fast, and everyone was nice and treated me well. All in all, it went smoothly and was a good experience.
- Which accounting software have you used the most?
Accounts Receivable Specialist
The interview process was smooth, friendly, and efficient. I had the opportunity to interview with a global company that offers remote work. I completed the first HR round and then the second round, which was a managerial/technical interview. All of this took place within a 3-day span.
- Can you explain the difference between accounts payable and accounts receivable?
Payroll Manager
This was honestly the worst interview experience I've ever had out of 50+. I'm writing this hoping nobody else goes through this and that the company wakes up. Since I have years of HR experience, I pay extra attention to hiring processes, especially in companies that aren't smooth. This company was incredibly amateur. There's no standard for how many interviews you get for the same role. Some finish in three, others get seven or nine. I even had a second final interview scheduled on the same day I was verbally offered the job. How can you trust a company like that? They kept asking about my current and expected salary, which is illegal in many US states. Why is a candidate's salary important? If someone's competent, pay them based on market standards. This company clearly doesn't plan to do that. An interviewer didn't even show up for one of my interviews, and they gave a vague excuse. I think the scheduler messed up and didn't send the invite. This guess was reinforced when they rescheduled me with the same person during the one-sided offer negotiation, and it seemed like they made the same mistake again. They tried to play mediator to cover up their screw-ups. After getting a unilateral compensation offer, they ignored my requests to talk to decision-makers. I was forced to accept unsatisfactory terms and was offered a lower position despite having double the required experience. My disappointment was huge. They promised a meeting to discuss the offer but then reversed it within 20 minutes, saying they couldn't offer more, couldn't guarantee promotion even in a lower role, and were hiring someone else for the promotion position. So why waste so much time interviewing? Why wasn't this clear from the job posting? The one-sided offer with no negotiation was the final straw. My request to meet the decision-maker was ignored, so I had to reject the offer due to the lack of negotiation and uncertain future. If this chaos is 'Deel Speed' and 'Unequivocal Transparency,' then I stand by my decision.
