First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dean & Company.

Since I'm local to their DC office, I submitted my paperwork and they quickly scheduled an interview. The interviewer skipped behavioral questions and went straight into a challenging case study, which I hadn't prepared for. Even though I felt I didn't do well, the representative mentioned they'd contact me about the next steps, but I never heard back. Just a heads-up, their website is quite outdated and not maintained, so be cautious. I applied because I thought my technical skills would be relevant, but it turned out the role wouldn't involve my background.
- How can this buyer of pre-owned cell phones scale their business?
Associate
I had an on-campus 1st round interview that was supposed to be 30 minutes but only lasted 20 because the interviewer was late. I got a call the same night and they invited me for 2 more interviews back-to-back the next day. The first round was just a case, which was all we had time for, and I was surprised to get called back for the second round. The second round interviews were a mix of fit questions (like why consulting, why Dean, and other basic stuff) and a case. The cases were pretty similar to what you'd see at Dean and with their clients, mostly involving telecom and math. I felt like I connected well with 2 out of the 3 interviewers and it was a good experience, but one interviewer really didn't seem happy to be there, especially doing 2 full days of interviews back-to-back, each lasting 30-45 minutes.
- As part of a larger case, what's the estimated cost for the client to rent office space?
Associate
They recruited us on campus and the whole interview cycle was about a week. They also threw a pre-interview reception, which was pretty cool. The interviewers included an associate, a senior manager, and the top person. The first round was with one of them, and the second round was with the other two. We did standard case study interviews about market sizing, strategy, and figuring out operations issues in the water industry, accounting services, and customer call centers.
