First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DDB.
Account Executive
For an intern role, they care more about your learning ability than your past experience. They're looking for someone with multi-tasking skills and good time management. You'll be asked about your availability for the job and if you can work extra hours to finish tasks.
- How do you handle conflicts between your job and personal life?
- What is your availability for this position?
- Are you willing to work overtime if needed to complete the job?
Account Executive
The interview process at DDB was really organized and moved quickly. I first talked with the HR director for about 45 minutes about my skills, what I've done, and what I'm looking for. She explained what each department does, and I got to ask about their daily work. Then, I had 30 minutes with the head of corporate communications and after that, strategic planning. They were upfront that they needed someone with more experience or who could translate Chinese documents. So, it turned into more of an informational chat where we talked about their own experiences in the industry. The office vibe seemed really intense, everyone was rushing around like they were on a tight schedule. The HR director mentioned people often stay past midnight to finish projects, and she seemed pretty intense herself, though welcoming and professional. It felt like DDB China operated very internationally, not in a typical local Chinese way.
- Can you tell me about the college course that had the biggest impact on you?
Account Executive
I applied online and HR got in touch a few days later to schedule a phone interview. It was supposed to be just with HR, but they added the Account Director too. They were both nice. The Account Director asked typical interview questions like strengths/weaknesses, handling difficult situations, how I found them, about myself, why I left my old job, and about my previous roles. It was a long interview and the Account Director said they'd get back to me in a week, but they never did. I followed up another week later and they had already hired someone. They didn't communicate at all about the decision. I feel like HR should do a better job keeping candidates updated. I was qualified with my agency experience, but I didn't like the process or how unprofessional they were. It felt like they cared more about my resume than my actual skills. They said they hired for multiple positions, but it didn't seem like it. I'd tell future applicants to be careful and research the company first.
- What would your coworkers say about you?
