First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DCM Services.
Account Services Representative
First, a 30-minute phone chat with a recruiter who was really interested and even mentioned a higher starting pay because of my background. Then, a video interview on Microsoft Teams, since it's Covid times. The second interviewer was a 'team manager' or something like that. She was unprofessional, slouched in her seat, drinking from a water bottle and talking about herself, her travels, and how she loves Vegas. She also mentioned not having children, which isn't professional interview talk. She asked about five questions and emphasized how new hires struggle with using multiple computer systems at once, needing to flip between screens. She said they have a hard time learning the systems, but I told her I reduce the pages to see them all at once. I think she felt I was too old because I don't color my hair. I'm 58 and think they felt I couldn't learn the job, even though I'm well-spoken with excellent communication skills and don't use slang. After not being chosen for one of the 5-10 openings, I was told they had to pick from highly competitive people. I told them in an email it was about age. This company, which deals with deceased accounts, already has a lot of turnover because they hire young people without college degrees. The interviewer even said many people can't do the job because they're on the phone all day and can't use their personal phones or the internet, and younger folks complain about that. It was clear my age was a factor, and they want someone younger who fits their games and age group.
- Can you explain a time you dealt with a difficult customer and how you handled it?
- How do you approach setting goals, and what steps have you taken to achieve them in past roles?
Talent Acquisition Specialist
Because DCM Services was my client while I worked at a temp agency, I was able to skip the usual phone interview and went straight to an in-person interview. I met with their CFO, VP of Operations, Director of Operations, Director of HR, and HR Manager. They asked standard questions about how I would address their staffing needs.
- What new initiatives would you bring to this role that aren't currently being done?
Datacap Specialist
I had an initial phone call with the HR team lead, followed by an in-person meeting with two interviewers. Both discussions were quite brief. They asked general questions to assess my ability to cope with stress and challenging scenarios. In both stages, I was given ample time to ask my own questions.
- What are your strategies for time management?
Account Representative
They have this thing called an "interactive interview" where you won't get your typical interview questions. Instead, they put about 6-8 candidates in a room with a puzzle to solve, while management watches from the sides. They say not to be a showboat, but I saw people who were, and who also got hired, just like me. They're checking out your teamwork skills, even though the job itself doesn't involve much of it, as most collection teams are pretty independent. They'll tell you they're not limited on openings, but that's not really true; it seems they hire 2-3 people from each group. Even if they offer you the job, you might have to wait a long time to start, like I did – six weeks. Honestly, I wouldn't have bothered if I'd known it would be that long, especially for the pay.
- If you're unfamiliar with interactive interviews, this one might catch you off guard.
