Senior Project Manager
The internal recruiter, Sue Svetkovich, was a great communicator throughout. Ceridian, like many companies, really wants to make sure the candidate is a good fit for the job, so there are a few interviews. The whole thing was pretty well organized and the communication was good the whole way through.
- Can you describe a project management scenario where you had to solve a problem?
- How would you approach a problem you encountered in a project management role?
Project Manager
I had 5 interviews. The first one was with the recruiter, just asking about my background, travel willingness, and salary expectations. Then I met the hiring manager for an hour, which was fine and included typical interview questions. After that, I had to send writing samples to the recruiter, which took about 30 mins to do. The next interview was with a peer, and it was pretty bad. He was very strict about how it went, saying he'd ask all the questions and I'd just answer, with no time for my questions. It was super awkward and the questions felt really scripted and rigid. Then, I had to go online and do a 90-minute personality test for HR, which was multiple choice, like asking what motivates me most. A week later, I met with another manager and then a director. These interviews were also just a list of standard questions. They finished off with some random questions like the last book I read and about a vacation. The whole process really needed improvement, felt like nobody knew how to interview. I spent a lot of time on it and then got ghosted, never heard back even after following up. The recruiter was unresponsive too. Ceridian seems like a good company, but the interviews and the ghosting made it seem unprofessional. My advice: don't waste candidates' time with writing samples and personality tests on top of 5 interviews if you're not going to let them know the outcome.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- What is your favorite project management methodology and why?
- Tell me what you do when someone on your team isn't pulling their weight.
Implementation Project Manager
A Ceridian recruiter reached out to me. The whole thing took about a month. I had five interviews in total, all were phone calls except the very last one. The first was with the recruiter, just asking basic stuff about my skills and history. Then, I chatted with a PM who's on the team, it was more about getting information. After that, I talked to the department manager, which was a more in-depth interview, and they asked me a lot about my project management experience. The fourth round involved the whole team of four people, we went back and forth asking about my experience and their day-to-day work. The final interview was in person with the VP of the group, and they were really upfront and honest about what the job entails and let me share how my experience aligns with the company's culture. I felt like everyone was genuinely warm and transparent about the expectations of the role.
- Can you describe your approach to managing people?
