Behavioral Presentation Case

I interviewed for a Senior Manager role that required relocation, but found out relocation assistance was only for executives. Then it got intense: several panel interviews, a meeting with a senior exec, and a full case study where I had to build a 40-minute presentation from scratch, unpaid. If they liked that, I'd have another interview. When I questioned the unpaid work and time commitment, the hiring manager got defensive. The process felt exploitative, like they were using candidate labor for consulting work without pay or respect. Just wanted to let others know to be careful if you value your time and expertise, because some places treat candidates like collaborators, not free labor.

This was a great onboarding and interview process, with about 3 interviews total, including the initial phone screening. The process at Davita was pretty straightforward for both interviewing and onboarding. The interviews could be scheduled days or even weeks apart.

Behavioral Presentation

So, the interview process started with a general screening call with HR that went for about 40 minutes. Funnily enough, I didn't even apply for this role; they reached out to me on LinkedIn. Next up was an hour-long info session, which was supposed to cover step one of the actual interview process. This step involved a two-part assignment: creating a rubric for change value and risk, and then using a provided template from DaVita to present this rubric. The info session was a bit confusing because I initially thought I was supposed to present the slides during that session? I ended up spending about 4 hours on the assignment, but the template DaVita provided wasn't editable, and the slides were PDFs, so I couldn't update them as instructed. I reached out to the team about this and they said, 'submit it without and do your own.' So, I quickly whipped up 4 slides with the requested info. I also offered to share my portfolio and more work samples because of the template issue. Unfortunately, I got rejected 1-2 days later. I was pretty disappointed with how the whole thing went down, and honestly, with the people I interviewed with. The questions they asked weren't really probing and didn't seem focused on my skills or knowledge. And if you give a candidate a template that they can't edit like you told them to, you should at least adjust by giving them more time or letting them submit a different sample.
