First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DAVIDsTEA.
Sales Associate
I applied online and was emailed a few days later for a group interview for a new DavidsTEA opening at the Yorkdale mall. It was tough to find the boardroom, making me a bit late even though I arrived early. I ran into a manager in the elevator on my way. There were over 30 people in the room. I introduced myself and discussed an item I was asked to bring. I didn't say much else as most people gave similar answers. After the interview, I thanked the managers. I didn't get a callback, which wasn't surprising given the rushed and disorganized feel due to the upcoming store opening.
- Tell us about an item you brought that is important to you and helps us understand you better.

Found the job posting online and sent my resume. They called me for the first interview and told me to bring something to present. It was a group interview with over 10 other people, doing ice breakers like tearing a tissue into pieces and sharing facts, and group activities to find similarities. Then there were sales-related questions, like talking about the item I brought. I also filled out a questionnaire about my availability, past work, a good customer service story, what I know about the company, and my feelings on retail sales. A week later, I got a second interview, one-on-one. They asked about my past jobs, handling a supervisor, dealing with coworkers, and getting customers to sign up for the newsletter. They mentioned that only the people they called back would be hired and I'd hear by the end of the next week.
- Tell me about a time you disagreed with your supervisor or manager.

Applied online and got an invite a week later for a group interview. We had to bring an interesting item we're passionate about to explain to the group, about 7 of us. Questions were basic, but whoever answered first had an advantage. We were asked to taste and describe a tea, say which was our favorite, mention a store we like for customer service, and explain our item. Then we filled out a form about availability, why we want to work at DAVID'sTEA, and our definition of teamwork. We could also ask interviewers questions. They explained the seasonal contract, holiday season role, and the training. Later got an email saying they were moving on with other applicants.
- Which DAVID'sTEA tea is your favorite?
- Could you describe this tea for us?
- Tell us about a store you like to visit because of its customer service experience.
