First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at David Lloyd Clubs.
Sales Consultant
It was a good interview and lasted about 30 minutes. They made me feel comfortable and let me take my time answering questions. The conversation flowed naturally, and it felt more relaxed than a strict interview, but I was still able to get my points across.
- Can you tell me about a time you received criticism and how you handled it?
Sales Consultant
After submitting my online application, I got a call for an interview with the sales manager. The interview was pretty straightforward, and they said I'd get a call to set up a second interview with the general manager. The general manager's interview was similar, mostly confirming what we'd already talked about. I got a tour of the club and an overview of what's expected. They basically told me I was pretty much guaranteed the job and to wait for a call. Then I got called in for a trial shift, which was about 2-3 hours. After that, I signed the contracts to start on the 1st of the next month.
- What do you consider the most vital aspect of conducting a sales tour within a health club setting?
- Which of your strengths do you believe best qualifies you for this position?
- What are your biggest strengths that make you a good fit for this job?
Sales Consultant
I sent in my application on their website and a few days later, the manager called me up. She talked super fast and asked me to come in for an interview. She ended the call abruptly, saying 'bye and see you then.' It felt really unprofessional and almost made me not want to go, but I decided to go anyway, even though I'd read some bad reviews and had a terrible experience at another club before. They didn't tell me if I needed to bring anything, and even after I emailed and left voicemails, the manager didn't get back to me. I finally got through to her, and she said I didn't need to bring anything, and again, she rushed me off the phone. What really bothered me was the other staff member with the manager. She seemed to really dislike me, probably because I'm a person of color and the gym isn't in a mixed area. She acted this way the whole interview. When our group went for a break, I saw her talking to someone at the cafe, looking at me and giving me dirty looks. When I asked her a question about the job at the end, she gave a reluctant answer, like it was a huge effort for her to even talk to me. I don't usually bring up race, but her behavior was really unprofessional and hurtful. Both the manager and that lady were fake, pretentious, and patronizing. During our group discussion, another person kept interrupting me and dismissing my ideas. The manager just watched and kept asking him for more input and details about his past work experience. He was white, and it's sad that some companies still hire prejudiced people to conduct interviews. People should keep their personal views separate from work and judge based on performance.
- We were given a short overview of the company as a group, then asked to do a group activity.
- We were asked to walk around the gym, either together or individually, to check it out.
- After exploring the gym, we had another group activity.
