Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at David Jones.
Sales Associate
The interview experience was really professional and pretty straightforward. First, a recruiter got in touch and set up a one-on-one with the store manager. We talked about my retail background, my knowledge of cosmetic products, and how I give great customer service. They also threw in some situation questions about dealing with busy times and hitting sales goals. It felt welcoming, but the main focus was on customer interaction and trying to upsell. It was structured and felt supportive, letting me show off my sales skills and my love for cosmetics.
- What's your strategy for assisting a customer who's uncertain about their product needs?
Sales Associate
The interview process started with a group interview where we did various activities and presentations in table groups. HR also gave a presentation about the company's values, goals, and beliefs. After that, there was an individual interview with a single interviewer who asked typical interview questions about my personal background and career/skill-based topics.
- Which brands do you find appealing?
- How would you describe your service style?
- What motivates your interest in working here?
Sales Associate
I applied for the shop and had an initial phone call where they asked basic questions about my experience in the beauty industry. Everything went well, and I'm now moving on to a second interview, which is a group session. I'm not totally sure what they'll be looking for during the group activities, though.
- Tell me about your experience in the beauty industry.
- In the group interview, will there be written questions?
