We started with a phone screen to go over the job description and your experience. Then there was a behavioral interview to see how you fit with the team and assess your soft skills. Lastly, a technical interview focusing on Datasite's tech stack and your relevant background.

The interview process was quick and straight forward but I leave you with a word of caution. The swe world can exists in bubbles sometimes and people know other engineers. After going through the interview process, and getting rejected, I even passed along the role to other engineers I know, some with over a decade of experience. In the end, from what I heard, absolutely no one was chosen. The interview itself was easy and from an engineering perspective, completed flawlessly. I leave this review as a warning because I believe that these ongoing job postings, and the company, may be suffering from decision paralysis, so much choice that they can't decide who to pick. This, and what I believe to be deliberate acts of sabotage by the hiring team to keep the team small and to present themselves as indispensable. Either some combination of those two, or the company is posting jobs and interviewing to present themselves as a growing company, but with no intention to actually hire anyone. Regardless, something is definitely up and I wouldn't waste your time.

Interviewed with the hiring team. It was a bit overwhelming because I was talking to 3 people at once, but the interview was fairly easy. It was mostly questions about Kafka, with some more general questions about web app development.

  • Can you tell me about your experience with Kafka?
  • What tech stacks have you used in the past?
