First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Datacom Systems.
Senior Software Engineer
They did general and technical questions before, you should show examples of things you have done and explain why you would join them. There were 2 rounds in total. It wasn't too hard but they might like answers with more details.
- What makes you want to join our company?
- Can you provide examples of your past accomplishments?
- Tell me about your previous technical achievements and why you chose to pursue them.
Senior Software Engineer
I got a call saying they were very interested in my skills after I submitted my CV. They set up the first technical interview, but they barely talked about technical stuff. Instead, they asked about my team fitting skills. Then they said I would be approached with a technical test to complete offline. Suddenly they changed their mind and asked for a second technical interview. It was a bit confusing how they called the first interview a technical interview and then asked for another one. During the second interview, they asked about backend architectural skillset, and a bit of react and c# skills. Although the role was for a Senior React developer, the majority of questions were based on C# .Net. Some questions on database and swift were also asked during the session. They were testing my angular skills (which I did not even write down in my CV). I got my response within a week, saying they are happy with my react skills but decided not to hire because they are looking for a fullstack developer, which both myself and the HR were confused about. They should advertise the role properly before they look for someone.
- Can you describe the API architecture you've used in past projects?
- What advantages does using a BFF pattern offer?
- How can one reduce memory consumption when an API is called frequently?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved several stages. It started with an HR text message screening on LinkedIn regarding visa status, its expiration, and previous work history. Then, there were coding exercises on a specialized web platform, including implementing a specific function, refactoring existing code, and writing a SQL query for data retrieval using JOIN and ORDER BY clauses, which took about 1.5 hours. This was followed by a conversation with a Technical Leader who asked in-depth questions about my past experience, C# concepts like garbage collection, structs, and inheritance, as well as SQL optimization techniques and the use of indexes. Next, a take-home task was assigned, which involved C#, ASP.NET Core, and writing unit tests, but the task description was unclear, requiring personal assumptions. The final stage consisted of two parts: a code review focusing on data validation, MVC usage, and unit test improvement, followed by a conversation with managers covering past experience and behavioral scenarios, such as conflict resolution. After this, HR contacted me via phone to extend an offer and initiate background and reference checks. Unfortunately, a week later, HR informed me that my visa validity was less than a year, making me ineligible for hiring. This entire 2-month, 5-stage process, which consumed significant time from candidates and employees, was ultimately derailed by a visa check performed only at the offer stage, instead of the beginning. The HR representative was also unresponsive to questions and failed to confirm receipt of the code project, demonstrating a lack of professionalism throughout the process, although the technical aspects were well-handled. The offered salary was also lower than expected.
- Can you explain how the garbage collector functions in C#?
