Marketing
I went through a few phone interviews, then had a final interview in the marketing department with five different employees at App Annie. They reviewed a big test project that they asked me to create, and spent an hour asking questions. It felt like they were using my interview and presentation for free work and I felt kinda cheap and used. The interviewers seemed really inexperienced and I felt like I was teaching them a class. They also had really bad communication skills. If you ask someone to create a project that takes 20 hours of free work, the least you could do is follow up and let me know that I wasn’t what you were looking for. Instead, they never let me know whether I got the job or not, which was pretty unprofessional after weeks of interviews.
- What makes you want to join App Annie?
Marketing
It was a very quick and personable process. The hiring manager reached out to me and met in person for a quick coffee chat to share more information about the role. There was a 16 hour homework. The recruiter followed up to share more context so that I would have a good idea of what level of work other candidates would likely present. The hiring manager also remained available in case I had any questions. I came in a week later to do a one hour presentation in front of a team of six, and it was a very conversational vs. formal presentation. Having accepted the job, the homework may have been lengthy but it's been very representative of the type of work I do on a daily basis.
- Why did you make those recommendations?
Marketing
Starts with a quick phone chat. Then a regular on-site interview. After that, there's a homework assignment followed by a presentation. It's great they vet people thoroughly before the homework. The homework is tough, takes a lot of time, and is the most crucial part of the whole thing. Nail the homework and presentation, and you'll get the job. Mess it up, and you won't. Seems like only the most committed candidates get to the homework stage, so if they ask you to present, they really think you're a strong contender. If you're serious about the role, make sure your presentation is top-notch.
