After submitting my applications, I had a recruiter screen to identify suitable nursing floors. This was followed by two online interviews with the Unit Managers for each of those floors. Both managers had extensive experience as bedside nurses, which made for a transparent discussion. They spoke very positively about their teams and the quality of care they deliver.

I did a three-week internship for DHMC Lab South between Nashua and Manchester. My experience was wonderful: mentors were hands on, provided instruction without making me feel inferior, and at all times made the focus about the patient's comfort and safety. On the last week of my internship, I was pulled aside and offered an interview. This was NOT due to staffing issues!!! I did very well in my internship, and they had an open position at the time (more of an "internal hire"). The interview itself was warm, inviting, and despite the fact that I knew the hiring team, was still conducted with professionalism and what you would expect during any other interview. If I was still in the area, I would still be working for them!

I had a phone and then an in-person interview for the RN job. The first call with HR was super basic, not really about nursing at all. They rushed me and didn't seem to care what I said. The interview with the hiring manager in person was much better, I felt more valued, but the pay was low and the benefits had high deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. HR was disorganized, inattentive, and unresponsive. Follow-up was really bad. HR couldn't even answer simple questions about the job and benefits and didn't call me back. They also missed one of the scheduled screening times, which was unprofessional. It was hard to reach anyone to get answers, making me wonder if I'd get hired or if the job was even real, but I did get an offer in the end.
