First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at DAI.
Senior Project Manager
So I had two rounds of interviews, each an hour long and two weeks apart. The result came the week after the second interview. Both interviews went really well, and the people seemed genuine and interested. I even took time out of my holiday for the second one because the position was a really good fit and I was keen for the role. The first interview was with the Head of Programme and a Senior Project Manager, and the second was with the same Senior Project Manager and his colleague. However, a few days after the second interview, I got an offer from the HR recruiter for a Junior Project Manager role. DAI assessed my skills as fitting a Junior Project Manager, even though that's a role I was doing two years ago with a 15k pay cut. At no point during the process was any other role mentioned, not in the interviews or the invites – all listed Senior Project Manager. Apparently, my salary expectations were too high, even though they were in line with the Senior Project Manager role and its advertised salary. Communication was really bad; the recruiter couldn't explain why, and I was ignored and ghosted by both recruiters after the hiring manager confirmed the junior offer. They wasted my time and refused to answer my questions about what went wrong. So, apply here with caution because DAI doesn't seem to value interviewees' time or potential staff correctly.
- Why are you interested in working at DAI?
Project Assistant
I applied for the job and a week later I got a written test. A month after that, they called me for an interview since I followed up with them. The interview was with the HR manager and the technical team. They asked general questions, verified my experience, and asked some behavioral questions. The interviewers were nice. They said they'd let me know the results after interviewing everyone, but it's been 6 weeks and I haven't heard back. Also, before the written test, they said they'd email it 10 minutes before it started, but it arrived only 2 minutes before, so I spent the first few minutes downloading and reading it.
- How would you present conducting a survey?
- How do you ensure you meet deadlines?
Project Manager
Before getting a call for an interview, I had to fill out a candidate questionnaire. It had seven questions in total. Four were about why I'm interested in the role, why I'm looking for a new job, my salary expectations, and if I'm authorized to work in the US. The other three were actual interview questions related to the job. The interview itself was a panel with two people I would be working with, and one was the hiring manager. They asked standard interview questions, but it felt pretty chill compared to other places. The interviewers were nice and easy to chat with.
- Can you explain your experience with contracts and projects?
- What has been your experience working with a difficult chief of party or expat director?
- Why are you interested in working for DAI?
