Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at D. E. Shaw India.
Finance Associate
The interview process included an aptitude test in the first round, which covered English, Math, Statistics, and Finance. The second round was a video interview where I had to answer three questions: an introduction and two situational questions.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- Describe a challenging situation you encountered and how you managed it.
- Share an experience of working with a challenging coworker.
Finance Analyst
The hiring process was quite straightforward. It started with an aptitude test, then an AI-based video interview, and wrapped up with one personal interview round. The interview was highly technical, covering everything from NPV, DCF, and Valuations. They even touched upon fixed income, asking about yield curves. Current happenings and one guesstimate were also part of it.
- Tell me about a piece of news you're currently following and which finance personality you typically look to for advice.
- What news are you following and who is your go-to finance influencer or personality for advice?
Financial Analyst
It was a pretty tough interview. They had several rounds and tons of applicants, so they were really looking for the best person. You really need to know your stuff technically to answer their questions, and you should be really familiar with your CV.
- What's the treatment of cash in a Cashflow statement?
