It was multiple rounds of back-to-back interviews, really grilling me on technicals, market awareness, and logical reasoning. Before that, there were online assessments, a virtual interview, and a group interview.
- Could you explain how option payouts are structured?
- Can you describe the distinctions between forwards, futures, and options?
- How would you go about valuing Elon Musk's net worth?

My worst social interaction - let alone professional. Recruiter ghosted me after phone screening, came back after 3 weeks and asked to schedule an interview. Cancelled the interview and then rescheduled it without asking if I was available at the new time. Regardless, interview day - 15 mins into the interview, no one joins the video chat, reached out to hr via email as to why - she didn't seem to have a clue. One person comes in, no apologies, no introductions, just asks me to walk him through my resume. Leaves the interview in the middle as I was reciting my answer saying he gotta go. comes back, asks a few current events - wraps up the interview within 10 mins.
- Can you walk me through your resume?
- Discuss global macro events, sticking closely to your resume.
- Can you discuss global macro events, strictly following your resume?

I interviewed for the DESRI team at DE Shaw. An HR consulting firm reached out to me on LinkedIn based on my resume. You need to pass at least 5 interviews to get shortlisted at DE Shaw. The first interview went really well. The interviewer was prepared and had reviewed my resume. His questions were relevant and tied to my past experience. He explained the business model and current projects of the team. The second interviewer seemed uninterested and possibly biased because I didn't go to a top-tier institute (I got my MBA from a tier II college but have 4 years of work experience, currently as an AVP at a financial services company). This interviewer didn't ask any technical questions for 30 minutes and wasn't receptive to my answers, as some questions didn't make sense or I'd already answered them. I wasn't selected after this round.
