Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Manager
I had a phone screener with HR, which was nice, and we talked about benefits and some job details. Then, I had a virtual interview with the hiring manager and a team member. The questions were mostly about my management style, which surprised me because I expected them to be more related to the job description, given that the role involves managing a few staff members. After not hearing back for over a month, I contacted the recruiter for an update, and they mentioned a high volume of applicants. About three weeks after that, the recruiter called to let me know they had decided to go with an internal candidate who applied last minute. The recruiter did call me to let me know though.
- Could you describe your leadership style?
Case Manager
I was contacted by email for a phone interview, and then set up a face-to-face interview a day or two later. The staff were really welcoming. I interviewed with the department manager for about 1.5 hours, discussing the position. A decision was expected within 2 weeks. I got an email the next day for a background check, and the day after that, I received a phone offer. They sent new hire paperwork with lots of info about orientation, training, benefits, and tax forms. I was really impressed they sent all the info ahead of time and detailed their mission to train and invest in employees.
- Can you describe your experience with insurance companies?
- Could you share some details about your background in healthcare administration?
Development Manager
After an initial recruiter phone call, I had a zoom interview with the Associate Executive Director. Two weeks passed between these meetings. Another two weeks later, I met in-person with a two-person team. All three steps were comfortable. There was some significant miscommunication between the AED and Nationals that was hard for me to deal with. Three weeks after my in-person meeting, communication from Nationals stopped, even though the team seemed eager to hire a third person. I was able to secure and accept another role in the three weeks since our meeting.
- When things go wrong on event day, how do you handle the stress?
