First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cymer.
Controls Engineer
I had to do a presentation on a project I picked, in front of the whole team. Then, there were 3 one-on-one interviews. After that, I visited the lab. Not super happy with how long it took to get a decision though.
- Can you explain what a PID controller is and give an example?
Controls Engineer
It took 3 years of sending my resume before they finally noticed me. The first interview happened a month after my initial recruiter chat, and it went for about 6 hours, including a 1-hour presentation. The interviewers were nice, but some seemed disengaged. I was told I'd need to work at least 10-hour days and weekends, and also warned about the company's tendency to lay people off without much consideration. Two weeks later, the recruiter called about a different role since mine was filled. I went through the whole process again and was never contacted. It's been 4 months since we first spoke, and they haven't even replied to an email asking for an update. A friend had the same experience, and someone else I know was also left hanging about 4 years back. I guess if they can't even send a rejection, it's probably not a place I'd want to work anyway.
- After ignoring me for about 5 minutes while checking his email, the director asks me to explain how my industry experience prepares me for a job at Cymer.
Controls Engineer
I got an email to set up a phone interview. After I passed that, I was asked to come in for an on-site interview. They gave me a tour and then I had 3 interviews back-to-back. Some were with one person, some with two. The whole on-site thing took about 4 hours. They said I'd hear about an offer in the next few days. I sent them an email about a week later and found out I didn't get the offer.
- Can you discuss specific technical questions related to your projects?
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Do you have any general control-related technical knowledge?
