Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cycle Gear.
Sales Associate
It was a pretty casual chat over coffee at the Starbucks next door with the store manager. They got straight to the point about pay and commission, then we just talked about bikes and if I knew much about them and their gear.
- Are you a motorcycle rider, and for how long?
- What do you ride?
- What's your experience with buying and shopping for gear?
Sales Associate
I had a phone interview that was really short, like 5 minutes. They asked general questions like if I had a ride and if I was comfortable riding different types of bikes. I think the person was from HR at their headquarters in California. I applied for a new store opening and I have over a year of riding and bike experience. I waited about 3 weeks for the regional manager to call me back, which felt too long. I had to leave a message, and she eventually called to set up an interview. During the interview, she asked typical retail job questions and some situational ones, like dealing with an angry customer. She said she'd contact me within 4 days, but it's been 2 weeks. It was really unprofessional. Even if I didn't get the job, I expected some kind of response, like an email saying they chose someone else. Based on other reviews, maybe it's a good thing I didn't get the job. I'll still buy my gear from them, but I won't work for them.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to handle an upset customer?
Sales Associate
There were a bunch of phone calls and then two in-person interviews. It took a few weeks because we had trouble scheduling. Everyone was super professional. I think the first call was with a recruiter, then the local store manager, and the regional manager. I had two interviews in person with the local store manager before they offered me the job.
- Can you share an instance where you had to resolve issues arising from a negative experience?
- Tell me about a time you resolved issues during an unpleasant experience.
