First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cycle Gear.
Sales Associate
It was a pretty casual chat over coffee at the Starbucks next door with the store manager. They got straight to the point about pay and commission, then we just talked about bikes and if I knew much about them and their gear.
- Are you a motorcycle rider, and for how long?
- What do you ride?
- What's your experience with buying and shopping for gear?
Store Manager
Takes a bit. First, you apply online, then after some assessment tests, there's a phone interview. After that's done, they set up an initial in-person meeting. Usually, there are 2-3 interviews before they give you an offer. If you accept, then you have to do a background check and drug test. The drug test is a hair follicle test that looks back at least 6 months. Once all that's done, they call you with a start date. The whole thing can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks up to 6.
- Do you ride motorcycles?
Seasonal Employee
I had a phone screen first, and then later that day, I went in for two in-person interviews back-to-back. We talked about my background and customer service experience. They asked about my strengths and weaknesses. It was pretty straightforward, and I got the job offer the next day.
- Can you share an example of a challenging customer interaction you had and how you resolved it?
- What would you say are your main strengths?
- What are your main weaknesses?
Sales
The interview process took a few weeks to complete. Initially, you'll meet with the assistant team leader, followed by the team leader. Depending on the situation, you might also have a meeting with the district leader. A thorough drug test and background check, which includes reviewing credit reports, are mandatory.
- The questions asked were not difficult or unexpected.
