Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cuyana.
Marketing
It was a process of one-on-one chats with leads from different departments, then a big two-part project. After that, I had to give a one-hour presentation to a bunch of interviewers. The last part was checking references multiple times. It took over two months and I didn't get an offer.
- Can you describe your typical daily responsibilities?
- How is your current team structured?
Marketing
I had a video interview with the recruiter and the entire conversation was one sided. She asked about 15 questions and many of them were almost identical, so I'd have to say "Like I shared previously, my leadership/team style is..." It was very clear that she was not paying attention to what I was actually saying since she did not respond or adjust her questions. She was the most inexperienced interviewer I've ever dealt with. It has been 2 months since my interview and I have reached out a couple of times for an update but she said she is still doing phone screens. 2+ months of phone screening?? That's another proof of inexperience. If a candidate is well qualified for the role, then move her/him to the next round. If not, then keep screening but at least tell this person so that he/she can move on. No one who is actively job searching is thinking "I really hope to start this job in 6 months" so please be respectful of applicants' time! By now I'm already well into the final stages with other companies so I have no time to go through 2nd round, on site, or anything else that is part of the process with Cuyana, but I just wanted to share my experience with other applicants so you know what to expect.
- Tell me about your leadership style.
- Share examples of marketing campaigns you've worked on.
- What's your previous retail experience?

I was so excited to see one of my favorite brands was hiring for a position I was interested in through LinkedIn/their own careers page. I reached out to hiring manager directly, and she set up a phone interview quickly- which was great! I answered some typical questions about my background experience and what I am looking for in next role. 1 week later, they followed up with a project to complete. I dedicated upwards of 25 hours to this project, and submitted 1 week later, and then -- didn't hear back for two weeks. I followed up twice to ensure my emails weren't getting filtered to spam. Finally heard back they were still reviewing after 2 weeks, and then a few days later was rejected. I would've appreciated a more upfront decision or feedback before dedicating so much time and energy to the project, and after project submission, would've loved to know a timeline for decision. I felt lost in the dark while waiting and holding on decisions for other offers. Seemed like there was no HR present or involved to liaise communications.
