Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Curriculum Associates.
Quality Assurance Engineer
They have eight HR people who are solely responsible for processing candidates through their very rigorous interview process. I passed all the initial technical tests and tech questions. They also train colleagues from other departments, like Product Management, on how to train QA people, which seems like a separate business for them. You must not show any emotions during their cult-like interview process; you're just a cog in the machine.
- Can you add an inner join to this SQL query to achieve a specific outcome?
Quality Assurance Engineer
The interview process was well organized and planned. It started with a phone screen with a recruiter, followed by 5 interviews with 5 different people over 3 weeks. Each interviewer focused on a different aspect and used different strategies, so there were no duplicated questions. Everyone was on time, respectful, and made me feel comfortable. The process felt fair and transparent.
- Can you write SQL queries and explain the differences between inner join, join, and outer join?
- Describe your approach to web application testing and test case design.
- Are you able to complete Python code tasks?
Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
Applied on their website and got an email the next day from the VP of Engineering about a HackerRank challenge. They really care about how you approach problems and how much time you spend on things like database querying or coding, time is super important. They also say to add notes explaining your thought process. The HackerRank challenge was timed for 60 minutes, and it's a one-time thing. Don't copy text or click outside the challenge window, as that gets registered. Apparently, a person doesn't review your actual challenge, so if an answer is wrong, don't waste time on notes – incorrect answers don't count. I got an automated email about 15 minutes after finishing the challenge saying the team reviewed it, etc. But since I did the challenge around 1 am, I doubt their team actually reviewed anything or made decisions then. P.S. You can take a 'Sample Test' before the real one, which is also timed and monitored, with 3 easy theory, SQL, and coding questions.
- There's an issue where a UI button isn't showing text when clicked; what are 5 potential causes for this?
- Write a SQL query to retrieve the first names of pet owners whose names begin with 'Ben'.
- Develop a Test Plan for a Word Processing Software, specifically detailing 3 sections focused on its functions.
