Technical Coding Behavioral

Started with a recruiter call which went great. Then I had a tech assessment. For the live coding part, they suggest starting with pseudocode to help think through the approach and communicate it clearly, rather than just using syntax. After the pseudocode is clear, you can translate it to TypeScript or any language you're comfortable with. The interviewer was flexible and let me use my preferred workflow. We worked through the problem together, and they liked my approach. It felt like we were collaborating. I felt good about how it went, but then got an email saying that due to the team's fast-paced environment with migrations, production support, and complex reconciliation work, the role needs strong independent problem-solving and the ability to move from ambiguity to code quickly. The interviewer felt I had concerns in those areas.

Coding System Design Technical Presentation

They sent me a take home coding challenge first. After that, I was invited for an on-site. The CTO mentioned there would be three interview rounds: one with the front-end team, one with the back-end team, and a product exercise. The front-end interview had this weird good-cop bad-cop dynamic. The backend team then hit me with a system design question that totally stumped me. I thought I could recover in the third round, but the CTO basically said I wasn't good enough and ended the interview. I got some feedback the next day, but it felt more like a standard interrogation than a genuine attempt to see if I'd fit in.

Behavioral Technical

A recruiter from Curology reached out to me via email and LinkedIn. We had an initial chat to see if I was interested, which led to a call with the hiring manager to discuss the role and if it was a good fit. The conversation went well, my questions were answered, and I said I was interested. Then, I was ghosted for two weeks before receiving an email that they weren't moving forward. This was weird because they reached out to me before I even applied, and I suspect it's due to recent layoffs.
