Behavioral Technical

The interview process was quite smooth, not overly challenging. They covered my travel expenses and arranged my overnight hotel stay, giving a very professional impression. The interview involved a series of 30-minute sessions with different scientists, a director, and an HR representative. While optional, no presentation was mandatory. The questions focused on standard behavioral and technical topics, and candidates should be ready to discuss their past projects. A generous relocation package is also offered, though it's worth noting their compensation tends to be below market rates.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied through LinkedIn and the HR call was the same week. Then I had a technical phone interview the following week. It was an hour and mostly split into three parts: what the job is about, my research experience, and some organic chemistry questions (NMR, synthesis, chromatography). The day after that, I was offered an on-site. The on-site was pretty good. It started with a 45min presentation on my research. I had to answer some tough questions from senior chemists, but they were helpful and would ask easier questions if I struggled. After lunch, I met with several senior chemists one-on-one. They mostly just chatted and tried to get to know me and my interest in the role. I also got a tour of the lab. The day finished with an interview with the director. The whole thing took 3.5 weeks and HR was very helpful.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • How did you find out about this job opening?
  • What led you to pursue organic chemistry?
  • Describe how you resolved the ____ problem.

Technical Behavioral Presentation

Started with an HR screen, then had a phone interview with a chemist who had looked at my papers. They asked a bunch of questions about my work, plus general chemistry, safety, what reagent to use, and what product would form from different reactions. After that, I had an onsite interview which included a 45-minute presentation and then one-on-one chats with chemists and HR.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The phone screen lasted about 1.5 hours and was very thorough.
  • It was much more in-depth than most companies.
