Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CSX.
Finance Intern
I applied online and got sent an online finance assessment test. After that, I did a quick phone interview. Then they flew me to Jacksonville to present a case study and do two interviews. They told me I didn't get the job because they decided to give it to more qualified candidates, which is hard to believe since I was the second most qualified applicant there when I interviewed.
- How would you go about creating a budget?
Finance Intern
It kicked off with a web interview focusing on my resume, as my school isn't typically in their recruiting zone. After that, I tackled a 10-question finance quiz with a time limit, covering basic corporate finance and financial accounting – it wasn't too tough. The final round was in Jacksonville. Before arriving, I was given a case study to prepare over a week. It turned out to be a standard corporate finance project valuation case, which I actually found enjoyable. The final day involved two interviews and a case presentation. The interviews were pretty relaxed and positive, with a mix of technical and behavioral questions. They got back to me the next day.
- What's your approach to creating a budget for an executive?
- Can you discuss questions related to coal and futures?
Finance Intern
I applied for the internship through the CSX website and my university's career site. I connected with two recruiters at university events. I got an interview offer via email that same week. I had a one-on-one interview with a senior finance manager. I'm still waiting to hear back. The interview wasn't too tough, mostly behavioral questions.
- Can you describe your finance skills?
