First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Crowell & Moring.
Billing Coordinator
I was contacted by a recruiter for a video interview. After that, I spoke with the manager and assistant manager. The final interview was with the assistant billing director. The process moved quickly, though it took a few weeks to get a response.
- What's your reason for wanting to leave your current employment?
Claims Recovery Paralegal
It was a typical law firm interview process. After the initial HR screening call, there were 2-3 rounds of in-person interviews. I first interviewed with a non-attorney employee who seemed to be the direct supervisor for the role. Then, I interviewed with associates, counsel, and a partner. Everyone was really friendly and thorough. The attorneys asked detailed questions and followed up on my responses.
- How could your past experience contribute to the team?
Summer Associate
I went through two rounds of interviews. First, there was a screener call with someone from their attorney recruiting team, who isn't an attorney themselves. Then, I had four separate 30-minute interviews with attorneys across different levels – partner, counsel, and associate. Everyone was really nice, and it was a back-and-forth where they asked me questions and I also got to ask them things.

Legal Secretary
The interview process started with a recruiter call in Washington DC. Then, I had an interview with the local office manager, which was scheduled quickly. After that, there was a testing phase, followed by interviews with attorneys, and possibly more attorneys for a fourth interview. The recruiter interview in DC took a while due to scheduling. The office manager and recruiter were very nice and understood the role well, making it easy to talk to them if you knew the job. However, the testing section felt irrelevant, including tasks like PowerPoint, which a Legal Secretary rarely uses. More appropriate tests would have been on topics like table of authorities, motions, court procedures, and Adobe. The process took a long time because the firm needed to coordinate with their Washington DC office. I received another offer I couldn't pass up while still in this process, though I did give them a chance. Everyone in the San Francisco office was pleasant, and I would have considered continuing.
- Describe the most challenging day you experienced in your previous role.
