Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Creative Planning.
Financial Planner
Started with HR phone interviews, then I spoke with their local Wealth Manager. Had another call with their Director of Financial Planning. They then invited me to Kansas City for in-person meetings with their COO and CEO. The whole process was quite efficient.
- What are your 5-year career goals?
- What is your motivation for joining Creative?
Financial Planner
I applied online and was contacted by a financial planner at the company's headquarters. Then I had a quick phone interview with a regional director, followed by an in-person interview with them. It went well, and I got contacted by the director of financial planning. After a phone interview with the director, describing the position and department, they wanted me to visit the headquarters for a formal in-person interview. At the in-person interview I met with 2 financial planners, a wealth manager, the director of FP, and the company's president. Everyone was nice, but I left after the interviews very confused about my standing. It was a long process to end up being declined an offer. Feedback would have been appreciated after the interview; as a lot of time, preparation, scheduling, and expense went into the process.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Given some hypothetical financial planning scenarios, how would you approach them to arrive at a client solution?
Financial Planner
First, I had a phone interview with their Talent Acquisition Team. They mostly talked about the company and the trips they offer. She seemed really nice and positive about the company. Then, a phone interview with the hiring manager, which was pretty standard. Everyone was very nice. The next step was flying out to Kansas for an in-person interview. The company paid for everything, but it felt like a lot in this day and age. While I was there, I interviewed with three people and took a test.
- Can you tell me why you're considering leaving your current position?
- What aspects do you enjoy most about your present job?
