First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coyote Logistics.
National Account Manager
So I had a phone interview first, it was pretty straightforward. They asked about my resume and my 10-year goals. The next day I got an email to come in for an interview at the Chicago office. I met with two recruiters and a senior manager there. They reviewed my resume and asked basic questions. I also shadowed someone on the sales floor for a bit and then they asked for my thoughts on it. I honestly didn't think I'd get it, but they called the day after to offer me the job. The benefits are good, but the pay isn't super high.
- Do you see yourself leaning more towards sales or operations?
- Between sales and operations, which path do you envision for yourself?
National Account Manager
The interview process was really laid-back. I applied online and they got back to me for a phone interview within a day. It was pretty casual, and then they invited me to their Chicago office. The interview there was pretty simple, the interviewers were really nice and didn't ask anything too difficult. I got to shadow two people who work there and made sure to pay attention and ask questions when I was confused. All in all, it was a good experience.
- Can you share something about yourself that's not listed on your resume?
National Account Manager
I applied online and then got an email the next day for a phone interview. The call was about 10 minutes late. They went through my resume and asked some tricky questions, like about one of my degrees. The interviewer hadn't even looked up what geospatial analysis is or its potential benefits for a logistics company. So, I spent a few minutes explaining how spatial problems can be solved using specific software and unique equations, covering things like optimizing city bike routes, analyzing satellite images for land cover, and mentioning research on its uses in the trucking industry. Then, they asked what I do for fun. I said I enjoy learning and taking online courses in skills like coding, website development, and data analysis. I also mentioned I'm a canoe guide and enjoy hiking and backpacking. The interviewer seemed to think learning wasn't 'fun' and pressed for a different answer. So I mentioned my dog and playing with it. They asked the breed and name, which I provided. I understand startups value work-life balance, but dismissing my genuine interests and the qualifications I'm gaining seems odd for a growing tech company, especially if recruiters aren't familiar with useful, emerging technologies.
- What do you do for enjoyment?
