First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at COWI.
Engineer
The hiring process has two parts. First, there's an interview where they look at your personality, behavior, and basic understanding of structural behavior. It was pretty relaxed. Second, there's a written test which was challenging and included MCQs and descriptive questions.
- Were the interview questions relevant to your CV?
- What was tested in the written test, such as concrete technology, FEM, SFD-BMD diagrams, Eurocode, seismic analysis, and post-tension/prestressed beam design?
- How did they assess your personality and behavior?
Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator
I had a Monday screening call with the recruiter. The questions were straightforward and standard, making the interview feel accessible. They mentioned they'd inform me of the outcome by the end of the week, but I haven't heard back at all. While I understand they might not be moving forward with me (which is fine), I find it unprofessional of COWI not to provide an update after an interview.
- Can you tell me about your background and your experience in infrastructure?
- What is your experience working on infrastructure?
Test Manager
The interview had two interviewers. The first one, who seemed friendly, gave a company intro and then asked everyone for a brief self-introduction. After that, the second interviewer, who came across as quite harsh, presented several lengthy scenarios, similar to those found in multiple-choice certification exams. The pace was fast, making it difficult to keep up. It was unclear what he was asking because he often asked multiple things at once. He would then provide his own 'correct' answer after hearing ours, which felt arrogant and condescending. His demeanor was robotic, like a Terminator, and the whole situation felt absurd. I seriously considered quitting the interview midway because I felt I couldn't work with someone like him, given his apparent inability to respect viewpoints other than his own. I ended up withdrawing my application a few hours after the interview.
- Can you describe your experience with communication, data, test automation, people management, and stakeholders?
Geotechnical Engineer
We had one interview, and they mentioned they'd get back to me within a week after it ended. However, it took them over three weeks, and they didn't respond to my follow-up emails during that time. Interestingly, they had contacted me to ask for my CV about six months before I officially applied because they were impressed with me, and I was encouraged to apply after an initial online meeting. It's strange that they decided not to offer me the position without providing any technical or non-technical feedback. The whole recruitment process felt weird and lacked transparency.
- Could you explain your motivation for studying this subject and pursuing this degree?
- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
- Presentation about the company
