I had a great interview experience with Costar. I met with several members of the managerial team, and they gave me a tour of the office. I got the sense that the team felt very proud to work for Costar and represented the organization well.

I had a good candidate experience, and the interviews I had were compelling. However I think there was misalignment with the expectations of the role and the seniority of the candidates.

Other

The interview process for this role involved an excessive and unreasonable request for documentation and verification, even after I provided tax records, W2 forms, and had prior jobs contacted for employment records. They also asked for education records going back 20 years. Even with authentic documents, they continued to ask for more, focusing on minor wording changes in job titles from over 14 years ago. This seemed overly demanding to prior employers and even professionals in the field, especially since the background check was approved by their third-party vendor. However, someone in HR re-evaluated it and found it not entirely acceptable, continuously raising the bar with new requests. It felt like they wanted me to decline so they wouldn't have to rescind the offer, despite the hiring manager and team wanting me. I did research and found the company has a history of labor law violations and has been monitored for discriminatory practices for five years.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The primary issue was not with the interviewing process itself, but with HR's unreasonable and excessive demands for background verification.
