Solutions Architect
A recruiter from Core BTS reached out on LinkedIn about a Solutions Architect role. The interview process had two parts: an initial phone call and a technical interview where I had to screen share. The phone screen was pretty standard. The technical interview seemed to have a plan, covering Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure DevOps (ADO), Power BI/Fabric, security, SQL, and Python. It was a bit confusing because I asked twice about what to expect for the technical review, but never got any info, making it hard to prep. The company's structure felt a bit off, like why separate data and AI functions? In the phone interview, they asked about AI, and the technical interview focused on Databricks and CI/CD. The job description looked like a typical Azure data architect setup, similar to my current job at a bigger company. I mostly joined the interview process out of curiosity. I didn't get an offer, and they didn't give any feedback. I also emailed them for more details after the technical interview was set up, but never heard back. It was an okay experience overall, but the lack of clear structure and communication was disappointing.
- Could you demonstrate how to create a copy loop in ADF?
Director of Network Operations
Interview went like any other interview. I meet with several stakeholders and was offered the position. One week (7 days) before my start date, HR sent me an email saying they were rescinding their offer due to COVID and the uncertainty of times. They assured me we would continue the dialog after things stabilized. Eight months have passed, and they have continued to lead me on saying that just another couple of weeks before we could proceed. To my surprise the job posting resurfaced and they asked me to re-apply, which I begrudgingly did since it seemed unnecessary. It has now been 1 month with no response from Core BTS and as they just announced an acquisition. Its interesting that they were to unstable maintain their commitments to prospective employees, but not so unstable that they could pay multiple-millions of dollars to acquire a company. Their action clearly show their priorities, which are not their prospective or current employees. Really truly disappointed, but I think I dodged a bullet on this one!
- Your standard interview questions, nothing fancy.
Senior Software Engineer
I sent in my application online on Sunday night. A recruiter gave me a call on Monday, and they were pretty helpful. By Tuesday, I had an interview lined up with a lead engineer and the director of engineering for the next day, Wednesday. The interviews on Wednesday were good; both interviewers were really nice. They mostly asked general philosophy questions, like how I approach problems or handle large issues, rather than super technical stuff or coding challenges. The recruiter checked in with me before and after the interviews, which was a nice touch. On Thursday, I got an offer that was even higher than I asked for, and I accepted it on Friday. I was really impressed with how fast Core moved.
- What's your criteria for refactoring JSX/TSX into a custom React component?
- Could you describe your general strategy for problem-solving?
- When do you think it's appropriate to seek assistance from a colleague?
Network Operations Center Engineer
So I got called in for an interview and there were 3 people there, a director, a senior NOC engineer, and a help desk manager. They all had their own questions for me, about their areas of the company. They were kinda chatty with each other during the interview. I got asked a technical question about how to troubleshoot a server access issue. The others asked more general stuff, like about customer support and handling stress. They were all dressed up, and it seemed like a professional place.
- What are the steps you would follow to troubleshoot issues with connecting to a network server?
- Can you tell me about your experience in customer support?
- How do you manage stress in the workplace?
