First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CopyPress.
Contractor
Applicants first do a basic test and then write a full article for assessment. I completed the entire process and submitted my documentation. Then, I was informed they couldn't hire people from my country. Two years later, I received an email stating that writers with my rating were needed for specific projects. My country of origin then became irrelevant. Suddenly, I was a contractor.
- Can you answer basic grammar and syntax questions?
Copywriter
A manager reached out to me on LinkedIn for the position. They made it sound like a great job with benefits, flexible hours, and PTO. I had seen negative reviews and heard they didn't pay freelancers, so I should've been more careful. The only step was to write a 'test piece' for $50. I did my best, but they said I wasn't a good fit. Given the company's reviews, I'd be very cautious applying there. I think they trick writers into doing work for cheap as an interview piece. Let's see if my work shows up online later without my consent.
- Can you write a 1000-2000 word piece on a topic we provide, within 3-5 business days?
SEO Specialist
The interview was pretty chill and easy to get through. They didn't do any weird or super complicated questions. They just jumped right into talking about my past work and why I wanted this job. I liked that they were straight up about things.
- Could you describe your strengths?
- And what about your weaknesses?
- Can you walk me through your experience?
Writer
I didn't have a formal interview, which made sense since we mainly communicated in writing. I applied, and then got a writing test where I had to make original content from their prompt. Someone graded my work, and then they hired me, and I started getting articles over the next few months.
