The interview process was pretty comprehensive, spanning about three weeks. It kicked off with an initial phone chat with the HR director. After that, I was given a critical reasoning assessment to complete. This was followed by an interview with the development manager and a staff engineer where we discussed my experience with the technologies relevant to the role. Next, there was a take-home programming assignment. Then, I had to complete a Birkman Questionnaire. The final stage was an interview with six other employees from different departments. During this final interview, introductions were made by the team, and I was asked technical and scenario-based questions, as well as general questions about my work style and personality. Everyone I met during the interviews was really nice and seemed genuinely happy working there. I got the offer four business days after the last interview. It seems like a good place to grow as a developer and work remotely.

This was the most thorough interview process I've ever had! I was really impressed with how much they vetted me - they called my references and had me take a personality test as part of the screening process. The rest of the process was pretty standard - one interview with HR, one with the hiring manager, then a final interview with a panel of executives. The interviewers were extremely prepared! They asked me specific questions about my experience and asked me pointed questions to help them understand what my approach is. I felt I had great conversations at every level of interview and that the company knew what type of person they were looking for. I am glad that I prepare thoroughly before interviews because someone who does not would be unprepared for the questions they ask. However I view this as a good thing - Continued knew exactly what they wanted to ask and exactly what type of personality they were looking for. If you as an interviewee are unprepared for those questions, that's on you for not preparing. I am marking this as "average" difficulty because their questions were great but taking the personality test took some time. I was also surprised that they called my references as most places I have interviewed with either 1) don't actually call the references, or 2) send them an email instead of calling.

After I applied, HR reached out by email saying they were interested in interviewing me. They sent a link to a calendar so I could choose a time to talk about the role. My first interview was a phone call with HR. The second was a Zoom meeting (no cameras) with two colleagues who do the same job. The third interview was with the Director of CEU administration and those same two colleagues, this time on camera. Everyone I spoke with was really nice, gave good information, and asked interesting questions. They kept me updated throughout the whole process, so I always knew what was next, which was great.

After applying for a different job, a recruiter reached out a few days later saying my background might fit a Managing Editor role better. I had a 30-minute initial phone chat with the recruiter to get screened. If I passed, I'd get a more formal second phone interview. Sadly, I got an email two days later saying they went with other candidates. I'm pretty bummed. Phone interviews are tough for me as a Social Worker because so much of how I communicate is face-to-face, and it's easier to read non-verbal cues then. I was really hoping to work with a good team and missed out on the chance to move forward. I did ask the recruiter about the supervisor and their qualities, and maybe that wasn't the best question, but I feel it's important for me to interview them too to make sure it's a good fit on both sides.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you tell me about your past work experience? Also, what would your coworkers say about you if they were asked?
  • What would your colleagues say about you if they were asked to describe you?
