Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Contentful.
Account Executive
I applied online and got a rejection, but then they reached out again. I talked to a recruiter for a bit, but it took a week to set up a real meeting. Scheduling was slow and they didn't answer my questions quickly. I got a last-minute meeting invite. The first interview was canceled, and in the second one, the interviewer was 15 minutes late. The interview felt like an interrogation with lots of closed questions, not a chance to sell myself. It felt fake, and then another candidate joined 15 minutes in. The interview went downhill from there, and I never heard back. The whole process was really unpleasant and not very human.
- What is your motivation for joining Contentful?
Strategic Account Executive
The interview process was pretty smooth and simple. The recruiters laid out the steps clearly and what they were looking for. First, I had a chat with the Lead Recruiter to see if my skills were a good fit and to learn more about the role. Then, I met with the hiring manager to go over my abilities and answer questions about situations related to the job. The last step was a virtual panel interview with some sales leaders (BD, growth, account management, etc.). They talked about my background and asked how my experience fit the position, mixing behavioral and situational questions. The recruiting team was great in helping me prepare for each part!
- Can you share an instance where you had to deliver bad news? Describe the context and the resolution.
- Could you describe the most difficult deal you've successfully closed and the reasons for its difficulty?
- What actions did you take to navigate the challenges encountered while closing that deal, and what was the final outcome?
Enterprise Account Executive
It was a pretty straightforward process. I first spoke with the hiring manager, and then I met with four other people from the sales team. After that, I had to give a presentation to a group. Everyone I talked to was professional and friendly. The recruiting team kept me informed and communicated well throughout. The interviews themselves were engaging, with everyone showing genuine interest. The whole thing was done over Zoom and went really smoothly. The questions were interesting and made me think. The team was well-organized, which made the whole experience feel very seamless.
