DevOps Engineer
8 pretty tough questions about DevOps, Config Management, CI/CD, and microservices. Most were open-ended and needed a whole explanation, and some were audio-based where they wanted to hear the answer spoken out loud.
- Can you name two popular Configuration Management tools?
DevOps Engineer
The interview process, apart from the recruiter's initial contact, was quite dysfunctional. I went through 5 interview rounds. Except for the Director/Hiring Manager, it seemed like the interviewers didn't really know how to hire or assess Senior Engineers. The technical tests felt too easy for the role's seniority level. Recruiters would schedule calls without providing feedback or specific details about the next stage. Technical interviewers didn't make an effort to understand my experience or even talk about the company's interesting challenges. I was supposed to join a team of a few engineers, but I didn't even meet any of them, which suggests they don't prioritize team input in hiring. It looks like DevOps is just for the 'boring IT guys' handling Terraform and CI/CD, while SREs handle production issues. This siloed structure speaks volumes about their operations. Unsurprisingly, I was ghosted at the end. If you're considering this role solely for the high pay, reconsider. It's best to stay away.

DevOps Engineer
I went through 5 video interviews, with several people from different teams. It was pretty chaotic, with people joining late or leaving early, and one interviewer was even doing other things like picking up their kids. Most of the interviews covered the same topics: CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes troubleshooting, like figuring out why a pod is crashing or how I'd design a CI/CD pipeline. There wasn't really anything about culture fit or motivation. I also had one technical test. It felt like too many interviews asking the same things, and it wasn't clear why so many were needed or if it was a solid process to actually check skills. Overall, it was a really bad and time-wasting experience. I should have paid more attention to the negative Glassdoor reviews for Consensys.
- What are your thoughts on CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes troubleshooting?
- How would you fix a crashing pod and determine the root cause?
- Can you explain how you would design a CI/CD pipeline?
