First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ConocoPhillips.
Accounting Intern
I met the recruiter the night before at a social event. The next day, I went to the office, and the recruiter had me schedule an interview for the following day. The interview began with general questions about my strengths and weaknesses. Then, the interviewer asked about 5 or 6 behavioral questions. To finish, they asked if I had any questions, emphasizing the importance of having intelligent, non-generic questions prepared.
- Describe a time you utilized Microsoft Excel to resolve an issue.
Accounting Intern
First, I had a phone interview, which was pretty easy. Then came three 1-on-1 interviews. The first was with the accounting director. The second was with someone from marketing, who mentioned it was to see if I could work in a team. The third 1-on-1 was with my future supervisor, and they asked me why they should hire me. I heard back about getting the internship about two weeks later.
- Why should I hire you?
Accounting Intern
We had a pre-interview dinner the night before, then the next day we were taken to a room where a current employee answered our questions and boosted our confidence. After that, my two interviewers, whom I'd met at dinner, greeted me. Since we'd already chatted, it was a pretty relaxed atmosphere. It was all behavioral, nothing too tough. They got back to me about 2 weeks later.
- Describe a situation where you had to recruit others. Was it challenging?
