First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coney Island Prep.
Operations Associate
About a week after I applied, I had a screening, then two weeks later I was given a performance task. 10 days after that, I had an in-person interview that lasted about 2 hours. It included a school tour, meeting with the operations team, going over the performance task with the director of operations, meeting with the DOOs of all 4 schools, and getting final remarks.

- How do you ensure that your contributions have a lasting impact?
Marketing Communications Manager
So the interview process had 2 rounds. First was a phone screen just to check my background, experience, and if I fit the role. Then, there was a 4-hour onsite where I met three directors and chiefs from different departments. The onsite had 3 parts: a debrief on a take-home task (graphic design or data analytics related) focusing on how I worked and the results, a collaboration and co-leading section with behavioral and situational questions about teamwork and leadership, and a part about delivering results, where we talked about past projects, their impact, and how I solved problems. There was a short break between these. It was pretty structured but felt conversational, checking both my skills and how I work with others.
- How will you contribute to our DEIJ and anti-racism values in your position?
Family and Operations Coordinator
I applied online and about a week later, got an email to do a one-sided virtual interview through HireValue. It was timed and you only got two tries for your recorded answers, which was a bit stressful but manageable. After that, I was invited for an in-person interview a few days later and had some prompts to complete beforehand. The interview day itself involved meeting the staff, touring the school, and a final interview. The final interview felt a bit repetitive, mainly asking about managing family relations. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but the lack of communication afterward left a bad impression. I was told I'd hear back within a week, but it's been three weeks with no update. I decided to accept another offer because of the slow process, even though this was my top choice.

Human Resources Associate
I applied in April 2020 and the whole thing took about a month. First, I had to do this HireVue thing, which was a one-way video interview. I had 72 hours to do it. You don't know the questions until they pop up. You get 30 seconds to prep and 3 minutes to record, with three tries per question. They asked about HR stuff and the school's mission. About two weeks later, I got a Zoom interview. Before that, I had to do some timed practical tasks for payroll, benefits, and staff issues, which took 90 minutes. Then on Zoom, I met some HR folks who asked about my task answers and other standard questions. They were dressed pretty casually, which was a bit of a bummer. They asked some weird questions too, like explaining tic-tac-toe and picking a song to guide a blindfolded team. After hearing from current staff and learning more, the job didn't seem that great anymore. I didn't even send a thank you. A week later, I got rejected. Interestingly, the job was posted again a year later.
- What song would you choose to guide the blindfolded HR team from Coney Island's Luna Amusement Park back to Coney Island Prep?
