Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Condé Nast.
Advertising
Lots and lots of people, split into groups of about 20, scheduled throughout the day and rest of week for just one vacancy. Given a test that felt like random questions and a way to past the time. Interview lasted 3 minutes. Asked about notice period, which seemed to be the deciding factor. Had to wear masks and then was told to take them off, awkward and not friendly atmosphere.
- Why do you want to work here?
- Are you applying for other jobs?
- Which of our magazines do you read?
Advertising Sales
We were all sat in a room with chairs spread out. A brief presentation on the company and role was given. Then we were told to do a psychometric paper test while waiting for a one-on-one chat. Because of Covid, we stayed in our seats and I used a magazine to write on the poorly printed test. When I was called in, the chat was only 3 minutes long and more about the company than a typical interview. It was surprisingly casual. I was given less than two days' notice to travel to London and had to pay a lot for the train. When I asked about expenses via email, they said the company doesn't pay them. It felt like an old-fashioned process and an online interview could have saved time and money.
- Can you tell me what you understand about advertising sales?
- What makes you want to join Conde Nast?
- What magazines do you know best?
Marketing Strategist
The interviewers were nice and asked questions about the industry, not so much about the specific job. The assignment was hard, but they usually are these days. All in all, it was good.
- Which influencer would you pair with which designer for a campaign, and what's your reasoning?
