A recruiter from Comscore reached out, mentioning the hiring manager wanted to chat. We had a Teams video call; it was a nice, chill conversation where the hiring manager mostly talked about the job. The next day, the recruiter got back to me to set up a second interview. This one was more technical, featuring a live coding challenge on Codility with one Java and one SQL question. It was a decent experience, though I'd rate the difficulty as tough because the technical round was quite intense and linear; if you stumbled, it was hard to recover. The interviewer really dug for detailed, low-level explanations.

So I got referred by someone who works at comScore. The recruiter, the Principal Technical Recruiter, was super helpful, and so was HR, making sure I knew what was going on. First, the recruiter asked me about my background and skills, and then they told me what the team was looking for. A week later, I got the green light for a phone screen. This was with a Senior Software Engineer, and it was all about coding in Java. The main question was about checking if two strings are anagrams. I gave a solution that was good for time, and then they asked if I could do better on space complexity. We then talked about which approach is better in different situations. It was a coding-heavy round, and they expect clean code. I could use an IDE, but I chose not to. It took about 45-60 minutes. The next day, the Principal Technical Recruiter let me know I did well and that they wanted me to come to their HQ in Reston for a face-to-face interview. The on-site had 5 technical interviews. Four were on algorithms, data structures, and Big-Data, and one was on Machine Learning. They asked about linked lists, trees, stacks, lists, sets, maps, MapReduce, data types (primitive and wrapper), Pig, and some other brain teasers. The team was awesome, really friendly but definitely knew their stuff. After the interviews, they told me what happens next and that I'd hear back in 3 days. They actually sent an offer on the third day. The benefits were great, even better than I asked for, and they sponsor H1B, which is a big plus. They also try to give other allowances if you need them. My advice: be ready. They stick to the job description and your resume.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online by sending in my resume. The same day the HR manager contacted me to get my contact details and desired date for a phone screening. We agreed on a phone interview within two weeks after that date. The interview lasted about 30 minutes and consisted of a check of my background, and some general questions about my future goals and ambitions in life. Then the HR manager started the technical questioning part of the interview, which lasted about 10 minutes. The questions were all standard with no more than 20 seconds to answer them. That was very strange and not very friendly, as the HR manager was absolutely not a technical person and lacked basic knowledge of Java. Therefore I had to answer exactly as written on her answer sheet. That was not a good business card from an international media company that tries to impress their candidates with a high-quality application procedure. I have not been contacted by the HR manager since and left without an answer, follow-up email or any notification. A very rude and unprofessional way to handle applicants.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The HR manager was very mechanical and impersonal, without any feeling for Java or technology, and didn't ask many unexpected questions.
