Data Scientist
I was reached out by HR who asked about my education background, if I needed sponsorship, and my location. Then there was an HR phone screening where we talked about the position info. After that, I had a HM phone call, followed by back-to-back interviews with the HM, a director, and a stakeholder director.
- Do you have experience handling large datasets?
- Can you answer some SQL questions?
Data Scientist
The interview started with an HR call to chat about general stuff and my current work situation. Then there was a data challenge where I had to use their data to create some kind of measurement index. After that, I spoke with the team manager to go over my past experience and see if I'd be a good match for the role. The final stage was onsite, which was pretty competitive with 6 candidates total. I met with 4 people: the manager and three other team members. We covered technical topics like data manipulation in SQL, Excel, and Python, some stats questions, and also talked about fitting in with the team. Overall, it was a really nice experience; everyone was super friendly and helpful!
- Can you explain what a left join is?
Data Scientist
It was a pretty standard interview process for a data scientist role. Started with a 30-minute recruiter call, then a 30-minute manager chat. After that, I had a take-home 'toy problem' assignment. The on-site part was about 4 hours long, including three 1-on-2 panel interviews and another toy problem. Everything was spaced out by 1-2 weeks. The questions during the onsite weren't as tough as I'd heard from blogs, but the surprise toy problem at the end made it challenging. One of the panel interviews involved people calling in from another office, and they didn't seem very engaged. The whole thing felt like it took forever. They said I'd get a quick response, but then I had to chase HR a week later, and then they said the week after that. Didn't get an offer in the end, which was disappointing after a 6-week process. I knew about the company's recent issues, but was still hopeful.
- Can you explain how you'd confirm the accuracy of an analysis you've done?
