Technical Sales Specialist
I did my research but couldn't figure out what the value props for the company were relative to other technologies on the market. That's because they're one value prop is that their cheaper. The interview was set up the day of so I had little time to do a deeper investigation. The interviewer questioned me on the technology and the market share and was extremely condescending when I gave a generic answer. The interviewer was rude and went out of his way to tell me why they didn't like me on an interview. I've learned to go with my gut. If it doesn't seem like a good fit, it's probably not.

VP of Product and Marketing
I spoke with Bob, the head of talent acquisition, for an initial screening. He communicated really well, was clear about what to expect, and followed up promptly. After that, I had interviews with several people from the MGI and Complete Genomics teams, including the president, head of engineering, sales director, lab automation leaders, product marketing, and customer success leadership. I also gave a 45-minute presentation to the whole team, which was an assignment from Bob. He kindly helped me with a tech check beforehand and let me practice my slides. Overall, the process was well-organized and productive, though a couple of interviews were a bit tough because the interviewers seemed tired from travel or heavy workloads.
- How would you handle leading both Product and Marketing departments at the VP level at the same time?
Field Applications Scientist
The interview process was pretty good overall. HR contacted me in late 2022 and we picked things back up in February. The HR person knew their stuff and what they were looking for. Then I had a one-on-one with a director. About a week later, I met with a panel of two team members and another director. Everyone asked relevant questions and was clear about their needs. The conversations felt both technical and pretty laid-back. Haven't gotten an offer yet, but I'm optimistic.
- Can you tell me about your experience with NGS workflows?
- Would you be open to traveling for this position?
- What makes you a strong candidate for this role?
Bioinformatician
I initially spoke with the hiring manager. Following that, I did a Zoom presentation to showcase my abilities. The process concluded with one-on-one discussions. Overall, the interview experience was decent. However, before extending an offer, the hiring manager repeatedly inquired about a definitive start date. They also prompted me to inform my current employer of my resignation to secure this date. Strangely, they mentioned two available bioinformatician roles, asked me to indicate my preference, then rejected me for one and never followed up on the other.
- Did you tell your current boss that you are leaving so you could give them a fixed date when you could start working, even though they didn't give you the offer?
- Can you confirm if you've already told your current boss you're leaving so you can give us a fixed start date, given that no offer has been made yet?
