Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
Senior Analyst
I applied on the company's website and then had a quick screening call with HR. Two days later, I had my first interview, which was a one-hour online session with the team lead and a senior team member. Three days after that, I got invited for the second and final round, a brief 15-minute in-person chat with an executive. They extended a verbal offer five business days later. The whole thing wrapped up in under a month.
- Tell me about a time using the STAR method.
- Can you solve this logical reasoning problem?
- How would you handle this behavioral situation?
Analyst
The hiring process took over a month, wrapping up in mid-May. There were two interviews for the operational risk team role. The first one was with two senior operational risk managers, and the second one featured a Senior Operational Risk Manager and an Executive Manager. Both interviews focused heavily on behavioural and culture fit aspects, although they did touch upon my technical experience in analytics, AI, and Machine Learning. It was a positive experience overall, and the hiring team was very professional and clear throughout.
- Questions covering your behavioural aspects, cultural alignment, and some technical details concerning analytics, AI, and Machine Learning were asked.
- Did you have any behavioural questions?
- Were there any questions about culture fit?
Analyst
The first round was virtual due to lockdown. It was good and the interviewers were friendly and enthusiastic. It lasted for an hour, followed by a technical quiz. Two days after, I got a call from HR scheduling me for 2nd round of interview with senior manager and exec mngr. Questions were tough and I find it a bit weird as some of the comments made me felt that I don't fit the role. Two weeks after, I emailed seeking for updates but did not get response yet.
- What are your expectations for this role?
- Can you describe how you handle conflicting priorities?
