The interview process started with a phone screen with a Corporate Recruiter. This was followed by a Teams meeting with the Regional Recruiting Manager. The final round was a panel interview with five individuals: a Regional Recruiting Manager, the VP of Sales, the VP of Client Management, a Project Manager, and a Regional Planning Manager. All interviewers had significant tenure at Colonial Life and within the insurance industry. Despite my four years of recruiting and three years of sales experience, I was informed I might struggle to build relationships due to my lack of industry background. Interestingly, the panel interview focused heavily on behavioral questions, with only one question related to recruiting: 'What sourcing tools do you use?'. It's worth noting that none of Colonial Life's Regional Recruiting Managers or upper management have prior recruiting experience outside of the company. If you're not from the insurance industry, this might not be the right fit. Colonial Life also appears to have limited diversity.

Behavioral Technical

I applied for their Territory Recruiter job and the next day a recruiter reached out to set up a 30-min phone screen. The recruiter and I had a good chat and they seemed impressed. Right after, I interviewed with the hiring manager, then the Director of National Recruiting. Both were phone calls and they went well. I was told I'd hear back early the next week by phone and email. It's been a few weeks and even though I followed up, I haven't heard back. It's okay if I didn't get the job, but it's unprofessional to just stop responding to someone who got this far in the process. This whole experience has made me feel negative about the company, which is a bummer because I liked what I knew about them otherwise.

Behavioral Presentation

My hiring process had three parts. I did two phone chats and then one in-person meeting. Each phone call was pretty much just talking about me and my background. The in-person meeting was a panel with 6 people from different jobs and levels. I had to do a short 2-3 minute presentation during that panel interview. So far, it's been super easy and not stressful at all.

  • Be ready to talk about yourself, including your strengths and past experiences.
  • Be able to confidently say why you'd be a good addition to the company.
