Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Colliers.
Manager
I had two phone interviews for this Manager position. The first call was a basic screening with the recruiter to see if I was a good fit. The second interview was with the division's President, where we discussed my background, challenges, and overall experience. Unfortunately, despite sending thank you notes and a follow-up email to both the recruiter and the president, I never received any further communication.
- Can you elaborate on your past experiences?
Office Manager
It was a three-step process. First, a phone interview with someone from the Seattle office, which was pleasant and straightforward. Then, an in-person interview with my potential direct supervisor, which was a typical interview. Finally, a second in-person interview with a higher-level supervisor, which was very amicable and easygoing. All the interviewers seemed like good employees who were fully in support of the company. Their descriptions of the job are normal for a large commercial real estate business. Overall, it was a typical experience, but sadly I did not get the position.
- Can you tell me about a time you had to handle a challenging HR issue?
Manager
This interview was a group session. There were 5 groups, each with 5 people. First, we were asked to give a short intro about ourselves. Then, we had to list our top 3 personality merits and pick 3 words that best describe how people usually see us. After that, the manager asked what we thought we could contribute to the company and why we'd want to work in China, given we're from Toronto. A key question was about our preferred real estate project in a city like Shanghai and the reasoning behind it. Finally, we were asked about our preferred city to work in and why.
- What type of real estate project would you favor in a city such as Shanghai, and elaborate on your reasoning.
