First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coinbase.
Program Manager
First, I had to do an assessment test which took about 30 minutes. It had two parts. The first part was an IQ test with questions about finding patterns, doing percentage calculations, and filling in missing words in sentences. The second part was a cultural fit assessment, asking things like, "Do you consistently try to improve the way things are done?" I got invited to the recruiter call after answering 40 out of the 50 IQ questions.
- Do you proactively seek out and implement improvements to existing processes or workflows?
Program Manager
The interview process for this role was chaotic and lacked proper communication, which was ironic given the company's emphasis on 'communication hygiene'. Details about later-stage interviews were constantly muddled. For instance, a presentation I was told would be 45 minutes was treated as 30 minutes by the hiring manager, preventing me from fully showcasing my work and potentially giving the impression of poor communication skills. While I can't say this was the sole reason for not getting an offer, effective communication is a stated hiring priority. Overall, it felt like they weren't genuinely looking to fill the advertised role but rather gathering information. My impression is they had a strategy from EY and were using candidates to assess its current relevance, which felt questionable. If you decide to interview, be ready for a lengthy process, expect to invest 25-30 hours, and be prepared to offer your professional insights for free.
- Can you tell me about your background and experience?
- Walk me through a challenging project you managed.
- How do you prioritize when faced with multiple competing demands?
Program Manager Intern
The process started with submitting my resume. Then there was a recruiter call, followed by an online assessment. The final rounds consisted of three interviews conducted back-to-back. After that, there was an offer review. Everyone involved in the process was really friendly, down-to-earth, and spoke well. I felt respected the whole time and the communication was clear. I've heard they are upfront about whether you've advanced or not.
- Can you share an example of when you demonstrated leadership skills in the past?
