Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CohnReznick.
Manager
Had a phone interview where they didn't ask any questions related to my energy industry experience. They didn't seem interested in problem-solving or communication skills. The interviewer didn't seem to be interviewing for the actual job. They were only interested in my "big 4" consulting background. It felt like they were looking for a specific profile rather than someone who could "make a difference for our clients" or address economic issues. Essentially, the interviewer was looking for qualifications that didn't align with the job description.
- Could you elaborate on your consulting background?
Senior Manager
After the initial phone screen, I had a panel interview with the team, a peer manager, and others. They said they liked my skills and I was a good fit, and that a final interview would be scheduled. Two weeks went by, and even though I contacted the recruiter twice, I heard nothing back. A few weeks later, I got a generic message saying my application was reviewed and they chose other candidates for interviews, even though I had already made it to the final round. It was frustrating because they wasted my time and didn't even bother to give me a proper response.

Manager
The interview process, from the in-house recruiting team to the hiring team, felt smooth and really efficient. The questions they asked were specific to the job and what the company values, and everyone I talked to or corresponded with was great and responded quickly.
- How would you explain complex accounting rules and technical information to clients who may not be familiar with them, in order to provide strategic advice?
- Describe your ability to communicate technical accounting concepts clearly to clients who might not understand the intricacies of the rules they depend on you to analyze and advise strategically.
