Resident
Technical then behavioral. Very professional as expected and they do a great job to cover the topics tested in a technical for the software engineering program. I had prepared for a few weeks and the interviewers were supportive when hitting blocks without giving too much away, which kept it challenging on my end (in a good way!) the program was excellent, I'd recommend it to anyone anyday
- Can you explain recursion?
- What are closures?
- How do you approach iterations?
Chief of Staff
The first step was a recruiter interview, which was pretty casual and easy. After that, I interviewed with a leadership team member (I think she was in marketing). She had a list of questions she read from and seemed a bit negative about her team. Then I was ghosted; they never got back to me about the interview or my follow-up email a week later. I thought it was unprofessional and I wouldn't apply there again.
- Can you share an example of a company whose culture you admire?
- Describe a time when you experienced failure.
Program Coordinator
The interview process was lengthy, taking about 5 weeks from application to decision. It began with a phone call and a take-home assignment featuring 3 behavior-based questions. The initial conversation highlighted the importance of company culture, which seemed to align with my values, making the homework feel worthwhile. Next, I participated in a Codesmith workshop and an "onsite" interview. This included separate 30-minute conversations with three staff members and a 15-minute presentation to the programs team. However, one interviewer's tone and questions were off-putting from the beginning. By the presentation stage, it felt like she was rushing through it. Despite investing significant time, the tasks didn't seem to be fully considered in the final decision. Feedback suggested the outcome rested heavily on that one interviewer's opinion, as she was the only one whose questions related to the feedback provided. While not getting an offer is always disappointing, I felt disrespected by this experience.

Community Manager
It was a really long interview process. I had a phone screen first, then a take-home assignment that took me about 6 hours. After that, I had to attend one of their virtual classes for around 3 hours, and then an on-site interview that lasted at least 2 hours. Even though I usually don't do take-home tests, I was really impressed with Codesmith after the first phone interview and my research, and I had tons of ideas about how to boost their community engagement, so I was super motivated to work there. For the on-site, I met with three people one-on-one for 30 minutes each, and then did a group session where I presented my take-home work. The whole thing felt super rushed. They asked a lot of the same questions, so I'm not sure why they didn't just interview me together. One interviewer seemed rushed too and kept cutting me off when I was answering. They asked about what qualities I bring to a team, and when I started explaining, they interrupted to say they only wanted one-word adjectives. I mean, who wouldn't want examples? They asked for things like 'leader' or 'responsible.' There was no time at all for me to ask questions, even though I had several I really wanted to ask. The whole vibe was just rushed and strange. I got the feeling they weren't really interested in me and might have been interviewing me just to meet a quota. It was pretty disappointing to put so much time into an interview process and feel like they were eager to just move on to lunch. I should have stuck to my gut and withdrawn my application.
- What qualities do you bring to a team?
- Can you list one-word adjectives for the qualities you bring to a team?
