It was pretty thorough. There were a few steps involved: a phone chat, some math and logic tests, personality assessments, and then an in-person 'assessment centre.' The assessment centre is basically a big group interview where they see how you interact professionally and check if your test results line up. Just a heads-up, this whole thing is handled by a third-party recruiting firm in Cleveland, and your main contacts are basically new recruiters who just graduated college. Getting straight answers can be tough sometimes, so don't take it personally if they're not quick to reply or if they push back the assessment centre dates a couple of times. That's just part of the deal.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Be ready for the panel interview, as they'll probe into the weak spots found during screening.
  • It's a gamble whether your interviewers will be articulate (business side) or shy (engineers), so be energetic and assertive.
  • Also, hold your ground during the group activity; some candidates from well-known universities might try to dominate. Be professional and highlight your skills in that situation, don't let yourself be intimidated.

After submitting my online application, I had a phone interview a few weeks later. Cobham's process is a bit different, as they conduct a phone interview before giving out any online assessments. Eva, the interviewer, was really nice and put me at ease. I felt comfortable answering everything, and she was reassuring when I made mistakes. It's worth noting that Cobham uses an external recruitment agency for their interns and graduates, so it’s probably best not to ask them technical questions at the end since they might not have the answers. All in all, it was a pleasant 1-hour interview, with 20 minutes focused on commercial awareness and 40 minutes on competence-based questions.

I had to do a video interview where I answered 10 questions with 2-minute video recordings for each, which was kinda hard since I only had 30 seconds to prep. After that, I took two easy basic skills tests in English and Math. The next step was supposed to be a phone interview, but they messed up twice and didn't send me the right info, so I'm annoyed with their lack of quality control. I haven't gotten an offer yet since I'm still in the middle of the process, but I'm questioning if I want to work for a company that's this disorganized.
